The Nigeria Airspace Management Agency NAMA says the decision to ground Arik Airline fleet is in compliance with an order from Supreme Court regarding a 2.5million dollar debt owed Atlas petroleum International Ltd by the Airline

NAMA in a release disclosed that the agency only acted based on the Supreme Court order to ground Arik Air aircraft fleet, as the parties involved should sort out their differences to enable the airline resume flight operations .

NAMA further disclosed that on the 19th July 2024, the enforcement department of the FCT Court enforced an order made by the court regarding a debt of 2.5 million dollars owed by Arik to one petroleum company by attaching their aircraft as Arik was further given a notice of public Auction of the planes by the court which was scheduled to hold on the 26th July 2024 if they fail to pay the judgement debt.

These judgements according to NAMA was served to the agency, as well as the minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development who directed the grounding of the airline:s Aircraft

Meanwhile the management of Arik Air(In Recievership) have expressed dismay by the sudden order issued by the minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo to ground their Aircraft

The Airline in a release said the decision was made without warning or consultation as it has serious repercussions for air passengers, employees as well as Nigeria’s economy.

The Airline further noted that the grounding of their fleet disrupts vital services, leaving passengers stranded and inflating already high cost travelling.

The Airline also stated that the decision to ground their aircraft also disregards on going judicial process .
