The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority NCAA says attempt by some alleged experts in the aviation sector to truncate the confirmation of Captain Chris Najomo as substantive Director General NCAA is uncalled for.
Director Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, NCAA Michael Achimugu in a statement described the action by the group Aviation Elders (AE) as lame and desperate .
He referenced an article allegedly signed by one Kolade Hassan and Sy Mohammed is aimed at ridiculing the person; character and competence of Capt Najomo an icon in the aviation sector , where he has worked in over four decades of premium service to the industry as one of Nigeria’s best pilot.
He said the group’s allegation that Najomo announced his confirmation as substantive Director General without Presidential pronouncement and Senate Confirmation in a video was shallow.
He stated that “There is nothing in the video that mentions his confirmation or otherwise”
“I will challenge these faceless “elders” to provide evidence of Najomo pronouncing himself as substantive DG NCAA. The NCAA official social media have said nothing about the topic of the DGCA’s status”
On the allegation of neglecting Safety, Achimugu stressed that Safety issues were not taken for granted as Chris Najomo completed the NCAA’S Flight Data centre commissioned by Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo
He said: “For all the talk about safety, not a single commercial plane has crashed under Najomo’s leadership. In fact, it was Najomo who suspended Dana Air for poor financial health which was impeding it’s ability to operate safely.”
The third allegation by the group is delayed customer complaints resolution, which they alleged takes the NCAA 224 days to resolve.
Achimugu described the claim as a lie from the pit of hades , and giving proper clarification. “The longest time frame for refund of ticket purchases is fourteen days as captured in Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023. Under Najomo’s leadership, the Consumer Protection Department of the NCAA has achieved the highest number of stakeholders engagements in the history of the Authority. Capt Najomo launched a first of its kind Consumer complaints portal for seamless resolution of cases, and to ensure accurate collation, storage and dissemination of data”
Achimugu stressed that the NCAA is now a more visible entity and highlighted some of the achievement of Najomo’s leadership
“Najomo has ensured that the process of licensing operators is seamless. The process that used to last an eternity under the elders now takes 2-3months to complete. That is why Najomo’s mantra is EASE OF DOING BUSINESS WITHOUT COMPROMISING STANDARDS ”
The NCAA spokesman maintained that the confirmation of the DGCA rests only with the Honorable Minister, the President and the National Assembly adding the agency will not be distracted by the antics of a few disgruntled elements as Najomo is driving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
