The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has achieved a significant milestone with the successful pilot deployment of its new Electronic Currency Declaration Form (e-CDF) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The Customs National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller, Abdullahi Maiwada, said the pilot Launched on April 9, 2025, marks a major step in the Service’s ongoing digital transformation agenda, aimed at strengthening border controls and enhancing transparency in financial disclosures.

Maiwada, said the e-CDF system enables both inbound and outbound travelers to declare currency electronically, replacing manual processes with a secure, efficient, and accountable digital platform.

He said during the pilot phase, the system processed 69 currency declaration transactions with outbound travelers accounted for 51 declarations, with a total value of $1,200,281.22, while inbound travelers made 18 declarations, totaling $177,786.88.

Developed in line with international anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-financing of terrorism (CFT) standards, the e-CDF platform provides real-time data to support intelligence gathering and inter-agency cooperation.

The NCS, Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, said the initiative underscores its commitment to leveraging technology for improved compliance, facilitation of legitimate travel and trade, and the protection of Nigeria’s borders.

Following the success of the pilot phase, plans are underway to replicate the deployment of the e-CDF system at other international airports and border posts across the country.
