The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority NCAA has ordered the immediate grounding of an aircraft belonging to Rano Airline, as a result of engine failure which the aircraft suffered on Sunday 29th June, 2025.
The Aircraft 5N-BZY experienced failure on its engine 1, as smoke was noticed in the cabin and flight deck.
Following this, appropriate safety protocols were initiated on the ground for landing as the smoke dissipated, and the pilot safely landed the aircraft without incident.
This incident caused flight disruptions in passenger movement, especially passengers scheduled to depart from Sokoto to another destination.
A rescue aircraft that was to then airlift passengers out of Sokoto had already boarded Abuja-kastina passengers. It would have created problems to deboard those passengers, as the flight out of Sokoto was cancelled.
The NCAA’s decision to ground the aircraft is in line with safety protocols, as the agency prioritises safety as more advanced countries have worse air incidents than Nigeria.
The NCAA Directorate of Airworthiness ordered that the aircraft remained grounded until investigation is concluded
The affected aircraft is still on ground with engineers working on it.
