The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority NCAA has suspended the licences of two ValueJet pilots over a serious safety breach at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, NCAA, Michael Achimugu in a release said the pilots were involved in a serious breach of aviation safety regulations on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

He stated that the pilots had initiated departure procedures without mandatory clearance from ground control.

Achimugu said “This reckless action endangered the safety of ground personnel and other airport users, contravening established civil aviation regulations and international safety standards”

“Consequently, the Authority has taken immediate enforcement action by suspending the licences of the pilot Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, and the co-pilot, First Officer Ivan Oloba, with immediate effect ”

The suspension will remain pending the conclusion of a full investigation.

Achimugu said “The Authority hereby reaffirms all Stakeholders of its commitment to safety”
