Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba has officially taken over as the new Customs Area Controller (CAC) at Apapa Command, succeeding Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Babatunde Olomu, who was recently promoted to an ACG
During the handover ceremony, Oshoba expressed his commitment to sustaining the excellent performance of the Command and improving on Olomu’s achievements.
Oshoba emphasised his desire to enhance revenue generation, deepen enforcement and security, and foster stakeholder relationships.
He also pledged to leverage digital innovations, such as the Unified Customs Management System, and promote trade facilitation programmes.
He said “It is with deep humility and a strong sense of duty that I stand before you today to assume the mantle of leadership as the Customs Area Controller of Nigeria’s premier port and the heartbeat of Nigeria maritime trade”
‘First and foremost, I want to extend my profound gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the management of the Nigeria Customs Service for entrusting me with this strategic responsibility. I assure you of my utmost commitment to justify the confidence reposed in me.”
Oshoba further stated “I also wish to pay glowing tribute to my predecessor, whose tenure here has been nothing short of historic. Under his leadership, the Apapa Command became a benchmark for excellence in revenue generation, enforcement, and trade facilitation. Kudos to Assistant Comptroller General (Dr) Babatunde Olomu for this,,Sir ”
Olomu, on the other hand, while reflecting on his 15-month tenure, highlighted significant milestones, including a record-breaking revenue collection of over ₦2 trillion and ₦214.9 billion collected in August 2025.
He also noted the Command’s efforts in anti-smuggling operations, with 75 seizures of contraband goods.
He noted that following this performance, the Command and himself earned numerous awards including the CGC’S special Award for Excellence in Revenue Collection, Trade Facilitation, and Overall “Best Area Controller”
Olomu while speaking on enforcement/ anti-smuggling stated that “Our fight against smuggling was never a rhetoric, we proved to the smugglers and their collaborators that Apapa Port is a no go area for illegalities ”
“Therefore, the Command is poised to always deal with the activities of unscrupulous elements that may want to test our resolve to address the menace of bringing in unregistered and controlled medication”
The outgoing Controller expressed gratitude to stakeholders and officers for their support, urging them to extend the same cooperation to Oshoba.
Olomu said “I want to specially thank God Almighty for bringing me thus far, the CG Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, all my officers/men, esteemed stakeholders, distinguished members of the fourth estate of the realm for their unwavering support towards our collective success during this period of 15 months I was here as CAC.”
The ceremony was attended by senior officials, port stakeholders, and members of the press, marking a smooth transition of leadership at the Command
