The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN, has officially kicked off the Operation Go-Cashless.
The cashless and contactless payment system is geared towards boosting revenue and blocking all leakages.
Managing Director and Chief Executive, FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku who was represented at the event by the Director Public Affairs and Consumer Protection Henry Abegbire, say it is a landmark initiative and a major step in transforming Nigeria’s aviation sector.
She said “Today, we are not just launching a new payment system; we are fundamentally reshaping the experience at our airports and reinforcing our unwavering commitment to accountability, transparency, and excellence.’
“Therefore, on behalf of the entire board and management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, and in a strategic partnership with Paystack, I am proud to officially announce the roll-out of ‘OPERATION GO CASHLESS.’
Kuku stressed that “This is a comprehensive, cashless and contactless payment solution that will be deployed across all our airports. We are beginning this national rollout with our flagship international gateways: the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja”
She further explained that with effect from today, the collection of physical cash will be phased out gradually at all FAAN revenue points. This includes airport Access Gates, Car Parks, and our VIP and Protocol Lounges.
“What does this mean for our passengers and airport users? It means faster, seamless, and more secure transactions. It means saying goodbye to delays and inconveniences associated with cash handling. This move is a direct response to your demand for modern, efficient, and world-class service.”
Kuku revealed that the initiative is a cornerstone of FAAN’S strategy for enhanced accountability and sustainable revenue growth.
She noted that by significantly reducing reliance on physical cash, FAAN is building a system that is inherently more transparent. Every transaction will be electronic, traceable, and secure.
“This directly enhances our revenue assurance capabilities, ensuring that every Naira due to the Authority is duly collected and accounted for. This is not just good for FAAN; it is a testament to our commitment to national development and fiscal responsibility.”
“Furthermore, embracing these digital trends ensures that our airports remain competitive and aligned with global best practices. We are sending a clear message to the world that Nigeria is open for business, with infrastructure that meets international standards.”
Kuku noted that steps are in place to address the challenges that may be associated with the new initiative as the FAAN Go Cashless Card, will be available at all airport access gates in Lagos and Abuja.
She noted that the launch is a critical milestone, but it is not the final destination, as FAAN remains steadfast in its commitment to continuous improvement.
Kuku expressed her gratitude to President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his ever-green interest in the growth of the aviation sector, as well Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, for encouraging, and supporting their innovations.
Director Commercial and Business Development FAAN,, Adebola Agunbiade said with the Go Cashless, the plan is to totally eradicate cash by the first quarter of next year.
She disclosed that “We will phase it out gate by gate as we set the first quarter of 2026, as deadline to fully go cashless, as the transition will be gradual beginning with Lagos and Abuja Airports
