In a profound act of compassion and corporate responsibility, United Nigeria Airlines has extended a helping hand to hundreds of residents in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, who were severely affected by recent flooding that ravaged several communities across Ire, Abor, and Ezi Ogidi villages.
The disaster, which destroyed homes, displaced families, and wiped out livelihoods, left many residents grappling with hardship and uncertainty. In response, United Nigeria Airlines donated N5 million and distributed essential food items and relief materials to more than 200 affected households.
The gesture, carried out under the airline’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, was aimed at alleviating the suffering of victims and restoring a sense of hope to the devastated communities.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, the Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines and Founder of the Pro-Value Humanity Foundation, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, OFR, expressed deep concern over the magnitude of the damage caused by the flood and underscored the need for long-term preventive measures.
“We are hopeful that our donation will help alleviate the suffering of displaced families in Ogidi. We came here with relief materials to bring smiles and restore hope to those affected,” Okonkwo said.
He added that United Nigeria Airlines places great value on supporting the communities it serves, describing compassion and service to humanity as central pillars of the airline’s mission.
“At United Nigeria Airlines, giving back to the communities we serve is central to our mission. Beyond flying people across cities, we are committed to uniting hearts, restoring hope, and standing by those in need,” he affirmed.
The relief distribution, marked by gratitude and emotional scenes, saw beneficiaries expressing appreciation for the airline’s timely intervention. For many, the donation was not merely material assistance but a beacon of hope in their moment of despair.
As the day concluded, the symbolic message of the airline’s intervention resonated deeply:
“The flood took their homes, but United Nigeria Airlines gave them hope.”
