The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reinforced its commitment to operational excellence, environmental responsibility, and customer satisfaction with the formal unveiling of its Integrated ISO Policy.
The milestone event, held on Monday, 21 October 2025, represents a major step in aligning the Authority’s operations with globally accepted standards of quality and environmental management.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, who was represented by the Director of Human Resources and Administration, Dr Luqman Emiola, officially launched the policy during a ceremony attended by senior management staff and directors.
In her opening address, the Director of Special Duties, Mrs Obiageli Orah, outlined the significance of the ISO Policy, explaining that it serves as a structured framework for assessing FAAN’s performance in quality service delivery, operational integrity, and environmental stewardship.
She stressed that the integrated approach will enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability across all airports under FAAN’s management.
According to Orah, the ISO audit process will enable FAAN to measure how well it adheres to quality and sustainability principles while improving customer satisfaction and fostering responsible environmental practices.
The Integrated ISO Policy combines two internationally recognised standards – the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) and the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System (EMS) – into a unified operational framework. Through this integration, FAAN aims to institutionalise a culture of continuous improvement, service excellence, safety, and sustainability.
Management disclosed that FAAN has achieved approximately 70 per cent progress in its certification journey. External auditors are expected to arrive in November 2025 to conduct an independent verification of compliance and address any identified gaps, with full certification targeted for December 2025.
Delivering a goodwill message, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr Henry Agbebire, commended the FAAN Management and the Directorate of Special Duties for initiating and driving the policy.
He reaffirmed that the Authority’s leadership remains steadfast in embedding quality, safety, and environmental awareness in all aspects of its operations.
“The Managing Director’s vision for FAAN is one of transparency, safety, and sustainable growth,” Agbebire noted. “This ISO integration is not merely a procedural formality – it reflects our ongoing transformation into a more efficient, customer-focused, and environmentally conscious organisation.”
In her remarks, Mrs Kuku, represented by Dr Emiola, underscored the importance of documentation in the Authority’s quality assurance processes, asserting that “if it is not documented, it is considered not done.”
She added that the Integrated ISO Policy will serve as a vital reference document for conducting internal audits and verifying compliance across directorates, thereby strengthening FAAN’s operational discipline and accountability.
Mrs Kuku explained that the integration of the two ISO standards would not only enhance FAAN’s internal processes but also position Nigeria’s airports to compete favourably with their international counterparts.
FAAN reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to managing Nigeria’s airports in line with global aviation standards, ensuring safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
The Authority also pledged to continue safeguarding the environment, supporting host communities, and maintaining a conducive work environment for its personnel.
In his closing remarks, the General Manager, Special Duties, expressed appreciation to FAAN Management for their consistent support and foresight, describing the ISO certification journey as a transformative effort that would yield lasting benefits for the Authority, the aviation industry, and the nation at large.
