The atmosphere at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, was charged with excitement and pride as the institution hosted the graduation and award ceremony of the Aeronautical Operator’s Course 32 (AO32), an event that celebrated academic achievement, professional excellence, and visionary leadership within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The highlight of the occasion was the recognition of two distinguished personalities from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) the Managing Director, Engr. Ahmed Umar Farouk, and the Director of Air Traffic Services, Mr. John Tayo — for their outstanding contributions to the advancement of air navigation and safety management in the country.
Engr. Farouk received a special award of honour in appreciation of his exceptional leadership and tireless efforts towards transforming Nigeria’s airspace management systems. The award organisers commended him for his strategic reforms that have enhanced the safety, efficiency, and reliability of air navigation services.
They also praised his strong commitment to fostering collaboration between NAMA and aviation institutions like NCAT to ensure the continuous development of skilled aviation professionals.
In the same vein, Mr. John Tayo was honoured with a recognition award for his dedicated service and exemplary leadership in the field of air traffic management. His contributions to operational efficiency, human capacity development, and adherence to global aviation safety standards were highlighted as pivotal in strengthening Nigeria’s position in the international aviation community.
The ceremony also celebrated the achievements of the AO32 graduates, who successfully completed the demanding academic and practical phases of their training in air traffic control and aviation operations. The graduates were commended by speakers for their perseverance, discipline, and commitment to excellence — attributes that are indispensable in maintaining the safety and integrity of the nation’s airspace.
Held at the NCAT Auditorium, the event drew aviation stakeholders, industry leaders, instructors, students, and guests who lauded the institution’s continued role in producing highly skilled professionals for Nigeria’s aviation sector. The celebration, filled with vibrant displays and heartfelt tributes, underscored the enduring bond between NAMA and NCAT in advancing technical expertise, innovation, and safety culture in the industry.
As the AO32 graduates embark on their professional journeys, the event reaffirmed NCAT’s mission of building a sustainable pipeline of aviation experts capable of meeting global standards, while also recognising the leadership of individuals like Engr. Farouk and Mr. Tayo, whose dedication continues to inspire the next generation of aviation professionals in Nigeria.
