The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace Limited, Dr Allen Ifechukwu Onyema, has been formally inducted as a Distinguished Human Rights Defender by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), marking a significant recognition of his sustained advocacy for peace, unity, and humanitarian service in Nigeria.
The prestigious induction took place in Abuja during the Commission’s grand 30th Anniversary celebration, an event that brought together leading figures from government institutions, civil society, and international human rights networks.
The ceremony underscored three decades of the NHRC’s commitment to promoting and protecting the rights and dignity of all Nigerians.
Dr Tony Ojukwu, OFR, SAN, the Executive Secretary of the NHRC and President of the Network of National Human Rights Institutions in West Africa (NNHRI-WA), presented the induction certificate.
He lauded Dr Onyema’s remarkable contributions to social harmony, conflict resolution, and public-spirited interventions, describing him as “a strong pillar in the advancement of human rights across the sub-region.”
Receiving the honour on behalf of the Air Peace Chairman was the airline’s Corporate Communications Lead, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, who expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed the airline’s dedication to initiatives that promote national development and human welfare.
The NHRC highlighted Dr Onyema’s numerous humanitarian interventions, including his support for communities affected by conflict, facilitation of repatriation flights during emergencies, and consistent advocacy for peaceful coexistence.
These efforts, the Commission noted, exemplify the values of compassion, justice, and responsibility expected of notable human rights defenders.
