Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Dr Allen Ifechukwu Onyema, has reaffirmed the airline’s strong commitment to sports development and youth empowerment with a substantial sponsorship for Nigeria’s reigning West African Boxing Union (WABU) welterweight champion, Elisha “Viper” Obizulike.
The endorsement was announced during a courtesy visit by the undefeated boxer, during which Dr Onyema unveiled a N10 million sponsorship package alongside complimentary flight tickets for one year to all Air Peace destinations.
The support is aimed at easing Obizulike’s professional engagements and enabling him to compete more actively across the continent.
Obizulike secured the WABU welterweight title in December 2025 and has since been widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most promising boxing talents.
His steady rise in the welterweight division, built on discipline, resilience, and mental strength, was commended by Dr Onyema as an example of the qualities required for personal success and national progress.
Addressing the boxer, the Air Peace Chairman said the victory goes beyond sporting success, describing it as a source of inspiration for young Nigerians striving to excel despite challenges.
“Your achievement has lifted Nigeria’s profile in African boxing and demonstrated what determination and focus can accomplish. You represent hope for many young people, and I am confident that your journey will continue to inspire others across the continent,” Dr Onyema stated.
He explained that Air Peace’s support for Obizulike is consistent with the airline’s long-standing philosophy of recognising and empowering Nigerians who display excellence, courage, and the ability to motivate others through their achievements.
Dr Onyema has consistently played an active role in Nigeria’s sports development landscape. His initiatives include the sponsorship of iconic Nigerian sports figures, the appointment of respected athletes as Sports Diplomacy Ambassadors, and the establishment of a Wall of Fame to preserve the legacies of outstanding sportsmen and women.
In addition, the Air Peace Chairman has extended support to emerging talents, including Nigerian child prodigy and gymnastics star, Stephanie Onusiriuka, reinforcing his conviction that early support is crucial to building sustainable sporting excellence.
By backing Obizulike at this pivotal stage of his career, Air Peace has once again sent a clear message to Nigerian youths that dedication, discipline, and excellence will always attract recognition and meaningful support.
The gesture further underscores Air Peace’s position not only as West and Central Africa’s largest airline, but also as a socially responsible organisation committed to nurturing confident, empowered, and globally competitive Nigerian youths.
