The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reinforced its commitment to quality service delivery, safety assurance and environmental responsibility with the adoption of a robust Integrated Management System (IMS) Policy to guide operations across all Federal Government-owned airports in the country.

The policy, issued under FAAN’s corporate governance framework and endorsed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, sets out a clear roadmap for achieving operational excellence, managing risks and delivering safe, secure and efficient airport services in line with international best practices.

FAAN explained that the IMS Policy is designed to integrate Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) considerations into every aspect of its activities, ensuring that airport operations are not only efficient but also sustainable and responsive to the needs of passengers, employees, host communities and other stakeholders.

According to the Authority, the policy underscores FAAN’s resolve to comply fully with all applicable laws, regulations and industry standards governing aviation operations and environmental protection.

It also aligns with globally recognised management frameworks, including the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System, which together provide a structured approach to continuous improvement.

Under the policy, FAAN committed to providing safe, healthy and conducive working environments across its airports, while preventing pollution, occupational injuries and ill health through effective hazard identification and risk control measures.

The Authority said proactive risk management remains central to maintaining high levels of safety and operational integrity.

The IMS Policy also establishes a framework for setting, monitoring and reviewing quality and environmental objectives and targets, supported by regular training and capacity development for employees.

FAAN noted that strengthening staff competence and awareness is critical to achieving consistent service quality and maintaining compliance across its operations.

To ensure effective implementation, FAAN stated that IMS requirements would be clearly communicated to all personnel working under its control, promoting individual accountability and a shared culture of quality and environmental responsibility.

Relevant aspects of the policy will also be made accessible to interested parties to enhance transparency and stakeholder confidence.

In line with its sustainability agenda, FAAN reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of sustainable energy systems and environmentally friendly technologies within the aviation sector.

The Authority further highlighted the role of leadership in embedding QHSE values, pledging to demonstrate commitment through visible actions, ethical behaviour and active engagement on quality and environmental issues.

FAAN also emphasised the importance of learning from operational occurrences, stating that lessons from accidents and incidents would be systematically analysed to strengthen controls and prevent recurrence.

The policy further addresses workplace discipline, with a clear commitment to preventing alcohol and drug use among employees in order to maintain a safe and professional working environment.

Customer satisfaction features prominently in the IMS Policy, as FAAN reiterated its determination to ensure that airport services meet their intended purpose and deliver positive passenger experiences.

The Authority said maintaining service quality is essential to enhancing the reputation and competitiveness of Nigeria’s airports.

FAAN noted that the IMS Policy will be communicated, understood, implemented and supported throughout the organisation, and linked to consistent and measurable objectives.

The policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure it remains suitable, effective and aligned with FAAN’s operational requirements and strategic direction.

The Authority said the policy represents a strategic step towards building resilient, safe and environmentally responsible airport operations, while positioning Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure to meet evolving global standards and support sustainable national development.
