The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (nahco aviance) has once again demonstrated its dedication to community development by sponsoring a primary schools debate competition in Oshodi–Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State, as part of its wide-ranging Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The debate championship, which attracted participation from public primary schools across the local government area, underscored NAHCO’s sustained investment in education and youth development within its host communities.
The company reiterated that it remains focused on executing impactful and people-centred CSR projects that address critical community needs and deliver long-term benefits.
Representing the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NAHCO, Mr Olumuyiwa Olumekun, at the prize-giving ceremony, the Assistant General Manager, Corporate Communications, Mr Tayo Ajakaye, stated that NAHCO has a longstanding tradition of intervening promptly in communities where it operates.
He noted that the company’s CSR footprint spans key areas such as the provision of potable water through borehole projects, donation of relief materials to internally displaced persons, and consistent support for educational infrastructure and programmes.
Olumekun congratulated Mafoluku Primary School for emerging as the overall winner of the competition, describing the standard of debate displayed by all finalists as impressive and reflective of the pupils’ dedication and preparation.
He also applauded State Primary School, Oshodi, which secured second place, Oshodi Model Primary School in third position, and Larinde Primary School, which placed fourth.
The Executive Chairman of Oshodi–Isolo Local Government, Otunba Kehinde Oloyede Almaroof, who attended the grand finale, commended NAHCO for its continued support for grassroots educational initiatives.
He described the sponsorship as a laudable investment in the future of the local government area and urged the company to sustain the programme.
The council chairman also encouraged the Local Government Education Authority to increase the organisation of similar competitions to further stimulate intellectual development among pupils.
The championship, held under the theme “Inspiring Young Voices, Building Tomorrow,” provided a valuable platform for young learners to hone their public speaking and reasoning skills. Beyond competition, the event promoted confidence building, teamwork and healthy rivalry, while exposing the pupils to experiences that complement classroom learning.
At the end of the contest, Mafoluku Primary School received a cash prize of ₦500,000, while the first and second runners-up were awarded ₦300,000 and ₦200,000 respectively.
Through initiatives such as the schools debate, NAHCO continues to reaffirm that community engagement and social investment remain central to its corporate philosophy.
The company has consistently positioned community development as a core responsibility, reflecting its resolve to foster sustainable growth and empower residents of the areas in which it operates, well beyond its core aviation handling business.
