Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN Olubunmi Kuku says the decay in the aviation industry has been left for too long and there is need to take urgent actions to fix it

Kuku who made this known this known Thursday in lagos at the 4th quarterly breakfast meeting of the Aviation Safety Round Table initiative ASRTI, stressed that there is need to take action to fix the decay
She said “But I do not want to leave without saying that we need to take a bolder and more strategic approach to the overhaul that is required , both from the airline’s perspective and for us as operators”

She added that “We have left the decay in the industry for too long and it is time for a quick turnaround ”

Kuku said that there are lots of complaints from passengers about flight delays, stressing that “In reality the expectations is we would be able to bring alot more aircraft in the market that would help us close some of the gaps that we have with the capacity today”

She said that as an airport operator FAAN has a responsibility to stakeholders and operators, to make sure that as they continue to operate and bring in more aircraft, facilities in the airport are positioned to support them

The FAAN boss disclosed that there is significant activities that has happened to improve the state of the Runway across the nation, both in Lagos, Abuja, Calabar, Owerri and Ilorin

She further disclosed that FAAN is also working to improve airfield lighting, as in the next couple of weeks some of the progress will be visible especially on the night operations, because there has been a lot of back and forth on Sunrise and Sunset airports, as they are working to make sure some of the airports can return back to category two.

Kuku assured stakeholders of FAAN’s commitment to work closely with them as well as airline operators for the growth and development of the industry
