Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) PLC has reaffirmed its dominance in aviation ground handling, winning the British Airways Safety and Punctuality Bronze Awards for its Lagos and Abuja stations in the first quarter of 2025.
The recognition underlines SAHCO’s consistent delivery of seamless, safe, and timely ground handling services as both stations surpassed expectations by meeting British Airways’ rigorous Adjusted Departure Closure (ADC) target of 96% every month within the quarter.
Regional General Manager for British Airways, Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific, Hellen O’Connor, who applauded SAHCO’s operational reliability, said Safety and punctuality are pillars of the aviation industry while also congratulating SAHCO in Lagos and Abuja for achieving the Q1 punctuality goals.
The award highlights SAHCO’s growing international credibility.
Its long-standing track record includes a diverse collection of accolades. In 2024, Lagos earned Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum distinctions, while Abuja secured the Bronze award. This performance is seen as a result of strategic focus and unrelenting commitment to service standards.
SAHCO’s Managing Director and CEO, Adenike Aboderin, who also expressed her gratitude for the honour, said they are delighted to receive the recognition from British Airways.
She noted that SAHCO remains dedicated to providing world-class ground handling services powered by cutting-edge, eco-friendly equipment, adding that the awards reflect the commitment and hard work of their team.
Since the inception of the awards, SAHCO has been a consistent winner across all categories.
In 2024 alone, the Lagos station received Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum awards, while Abuja earned the Bronze award — a testament to the company’s relentless pursuit of excellence.
Beyond international accolades, SAHCO also received domestic commendation as the company, alongside its Assistant General Manager for Safety and Quality Assurance, Christy Oseghale, was honoured at the 2025 Nigeria Safety and Security (NSAS) Awards and Lecture.
The event, hosted by Safety and Security Watch (SSWatch) Magazine, marked the International Labour Organization’s World Day for Safety and Health.
Oseghale earned the Special Safety Merit Award and was designated a “Safety Champion” for her efforts in instilling a safety-first mindset across SAHCO’s operations.
Managing Editor of SSWatch Magazine, Dr. Chinyere Amaechi, emphasized SAHCO’s industry impact, stating that they prioritizes safety in all areas of operation.
SAHCO, head Corporate Communications, Adetola Vanessa Uansohia, said with the accolades, SAHCO PLC continues to cement its position as a leading provider of safe, reliable, and innovative ground handling services across Nigeria’s aviation landscape.
