Fresh concerns over international flight operations emerged on Wednesday after Air Peace confirmed that one of its scheduled Lagos–London Gatwick flights was disrupted due to airspace access complications involving authorities in an African country.
The airline, in an official flight operations update issued by its management, said the affected service was the Lagos–London Gatwick flight scheduled for 13 May 2026.
Air Peace explained that the aircraft encountered enroute operational challenges linked to access clearance while passing through the airspace of the unnamed African nation.
According to the airline, the development necessitated urgent operational clarification with the relevant airspace authorities, prompting the crew to discontinue the journey and safely return the aircraft to Lagos.
The airline stated that the decision was taken in line with internationally accepted aviation safety and operational procedures designed to prioritise passenger welfare and regulatory compliance.
Industry observers note that international flight operations across multiple jurisdictions often require coordinated airspace permissions and diplomatic clearances, especially for long-haul services traversing several countries.
Air Peace, however, did not disclose the identity of the country involved or provide further details on the exact nature of the access issue.
Following the disruption, the airline announced the rescheduling of the London Gatwick service while discussions and clarifications with the concerned authorities continued.
The carrier said passengers affected by the disruption were informed immediately after the incident and assured that support arrangements were activated to ease the inconvenience caused by the delay.
The airline added that communication updates, assistance services, and other passenger care measures were provided as part of its response to the situation.
Air Peace apologised to customers for the disruption, describing the incident as unforeseen and beyond the airline’s direct control.
The airline also reaffirmed its commitment to operational safety, strict adherence to aviation regulations, and the delivery of reliable passenger services across its network.
The Lagos–London Gatwick route represents a major milestone in Air Peace’s international operations, strengthening direct connectivity between Nigeria and the United Kingdom while increasing competition on the transcontinental route.
