Nigeria’s largest airline, Air Peace, has secured regulatory approval from Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) to commence scheduled international operations to and from the South American nation, in a development that marks another significant step in the carrier’s transformation into a major global airline.

The approval is expected to open a new chapter in aviation relations between Nigeria and Brazil, paving the way for the launch of direct passenger, cargo and mail services by a Nigerian carrier and significantly reducing travel time between both countries.

According to the airline, the Brazilian authority granted the approval through ANAC Ordinance No. 19.449/2026, authorising Air Peace to operate regular services linking Brazil with destinations across its expanding international network.

The breakthrough comes as the airline intensifies efforts to broaden its global footprint, with plans already at various stages of completion for operations into North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Air Peace disclosed that applications submitted to aviation authorities in Canada and the United States for landing rights into Toronto and New York have been progressing since last year. The carrier is also close to restoring services to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and Guangzhou in China.

In Europe, the airline has finalised plans to commence three weekly flights to Manchester in the United Kingdom, further strengthening its presence beyond Africa and underscoring its ambition to emerge as one of the continent’s foremost international carriers.

The addition of Brazil to the airline’s route portfolio is expected to deliver far-reaching economic and social benefits. At present, journeys between Nigeria and Brazil often involve multiple connections and can take almost two days to complete.

However, direct flights are projected to cut travel time to approximately seven hours.
The airline noted that the expected impact of the Brazil route would be similar to that of its Barbados operations, which have helped improve accessibility between Nigeria and the Caribbean and created new opportunities for tourism and commerce.

Industry stakeholders believe the direct air link will stimulate bilateral trade, encourage investments and strengthen people-to-people exchanges between Nigeria and Brazil, two countries with deep historical and cultural connections.

Beyond passenger movement, the new route is also expected to enhance cargo transportation and boost commercial activities between Nigeria and South America. Analysts have long argued that the absence of direct connectivity represented a major obstacle to unlocking the full potential of economic cooperation between both nations.

The latest development comes against the backdrop of Air Peace’s continued expansion across Africa. The airline recently announced plans to commence flights to Libreville in Gabon, Conakry in Guinea, Bamako in Mali and Douala in Cameroon, with services scheduled to begin on 1 August.

These additions are expected to further consolidate the carrier’s position as Nigeria’s leading international airline and strengthen regional integration within West and Central Africa.

Air Peace’s international operations already extend to London in the United Kingdom and Barbados in the Caribbean, alongside several destinations across West Africa, including Accra in Ghana, Freetown in Sierra Leone, Dakar in Senegal, Banjul in The Gambia, Monrovia in Liberia and Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire.

With expansion plans spanning Africa, Europe, North America, the Middle East, the Caribbean and South America, the airline appears determined to build a network capable of competing on the global stage.

Observers say the Brazilian approval represents more than just the opening of another route. It reflects Air Peace’s growing stature in international aviation and highlights the increasing role of Nigerian carriers in connecting the country to strategic markets around the world.

As preparations continue for new operations into Brazil, Toronto, New York, Manchester, Jeddah and Guangzhou, Air Peace is steadily advancing towards its vision of becoming Africa’s preferred airline and establishing itself as a respected global aviation brand.
