Air Peace has announced temporary disruptions to its flight operations following the ongoing industrial action by organised labour unions at airports in Lagos and Abuja.

The airline said the industrial action by members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) had resulted in the barricading of entrances to some of the terminals from which it operates.

According to Air Peace, the affected facilities include Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1, comprising the Alpha and Zulu terminals, and Terminal 2 in Lagos, as well as the terminal at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The airline said the blockade had restricted access to the terminals, making it impossible for scheduled flights to depart from Lagos and Abuja.

The development has consequently affected passengers scheduled to travel on Air Peace flights across its network, with several travellers reportedly unable to access the airport terminals for their flights.

In a statement issued by its management, Air Peace apologised to passengers affected by the disruption, saying the situation was caused by circumstances beyond the airline’s control.

The airline said, “The ongoing industrial action has resulted in the barricading of the entrances to our departure terminals at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 (Alpha and Zulu Terminals) and Terminal 2 in Lagos, as well as the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Terminal in Abuja.”

It added that the blockade had “restricted access to these terminals, preventing the departure of scheduled flights from Lagos and Abuja”.

Air Peace said passengers whose flights had been affected had been significantly impacted by the disruption, while those scheduled to travel later in the day were being contacted as the situation developed.

“Passengers scheduled to travel later today are being contacted and provided with relevant updates as the situation evolves,” the airline said.

The carrier said it was closely monitoring developments and would continue to provide updates to passengers as more information became available.

The disruption comes amid industrial action involving organised labour and aviation-sector unions, with airport access being affected by the picketing activities.

Air Peace urged its passengers to remain patient and understanding as the airline works through the disruption.

The airline expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers, particularly those who had been stranded or whose travel plans had been disrupted.

“Air Peace sincerely apologises to all affected and stranded passengers for the disruption and inconvenience caused by circumstances beyond the airline’s control,” the statement said.

The carrier said it would continue to monitor the situation and communicate further developments to passengers as necessary.
