Enugu Air has secured regulatory approval for its proposed Lagos–London Gatwick flight service, marking a major step in the airline’s ambition to expand its operations into the international aviation market.

The airline disclosed that Omni-Blu Aviation (OBA) had been appointed as the designated operator for the route under a strategic partnership arrangement.

According to the announcement, bookings for the service have commenced, while flight operations are expected to begin in December 2026.

The development is expected to strengthen air transport links between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, offering passengers another option for travelling between the two countries and potentially stimulating commercial, tourism and investment opportunities.

The approval represents an important development for Enugu Air, which is seeking to broaden its operational reach through international route expansion and strategic collaborations with aviation industry operators.

The appointment of Omni-Blu Aviation as the designated operator provides the operational framework for the proposed service, although the airline did not disclose further details about the aircraft to be deployed, flight frequency or the specific date operations would commence.

The Lagos–London Gatwick route is particularly significant given the longstanding demand for air connectivity between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, driven by business travellers, tourists, students and Nigerians living in the diaspora.

The new service is expected to provide additional capacity on the international corridor and offer travellers more choices in planning their journeys.

Enugu Air also linked the development to the aviation and economic development agenda of Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose administration has identified aviation as an important component of the state’s economic transformation strategy.

The airline said the milestone reflected the governor’s vision and transformative leadership in positioning Enugu as an emerging gateway for international connectivity, investment, tourism and economic growth.

The state government’s aviation agenda is aimed at leveraging air transport to improve access to Enugu, attract investment and strengthen the state’s connections with international markets.

Although the proposed international service is scheduled to operate between Lagos and London Gatwick, its introduction forms part of the broader ambition to raise Enugu Air’s profile and extend its reach beyond domestic operations.

With bookings now open ahead of the planned December commencement, attention will turn to the airline’s operational preparations and its ability to deliver the new service in a competitive international aviation market.
