The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, Monday led top directors from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to receive Nigeria’s heroic women football team, the Super Falcons, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The Super Falcons arrived from Morocco after emerging champions of the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), claiming their 10th continental title, a historic feat that further cements Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.
The special Adviser on media to the keyamo, Tunde Moshood in a release said the minister while receiving the falcons at the arrival hall, hailed the team’s resilience, unity, and unrelenting patriotism, describing their victory as “a triumph for the girl-child, a national pride, and a symbol of Nigeria’s unbreakable spirit.”
The team was welcomed with cheers, traditional performances, capturing the admiration of Nigerians at home.
The champions were led in a motorcade from the airport to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, where they were hosted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In recognition of their outstanding performance and in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, the President conferred National Honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each team member.
The the team also received cash gifts of $1 million and keys to brand-new three-bedroom flats at the Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Abuja.
President Tinubu lauded the team for bringing glory to the nation, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to promoting gender equality in sports, investing in youth development, and rewarding excellence.
The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development reiterated the aviation sector’s continued support for national pride and sporting achievement, pledging to work with relevant agencies to ensure smoother travel experiences for Nigerian athletes and national teams in future competitions.
