Minister of aviation Hadi Sirika has expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness of the airports to resume flight operations. Sirika who made this known at the end of a dry test run at the domestic wing of the Muritala Muhammed Airport, Lagos ahead of flights resumption, when he led members of the Presidential Task force (PTF) on COVID-19 to assess the level of preparedness at the airport.
Sirika who did not specify when the airports would reopen for domestic flights, said he is 90 to 95 percent satisfied with measures in place like markings on the floor, seat separation as well as provision of hand sanitizer and temperature checking device “I’m not 100 percent satisfied but I am 90 percent satisfied and why did I say so? I said so because our airports both Lagos and Abuja, we have marked them clearly, we have trained our staff to ensure the physical distancing, we have provided COVID-19 compliant toilets. We have provided for hand sanitizers to guide people efficiently. We reduced the amount of people the Co-Bus can take”.

He however did not give a definite date for flight resumption “I think once we are good to go, we are good to go. You know there are two components of it. The health and safety components. This thing is not as easy as you think. I don’t want to give a date but I am sure we are getting there.”
The minister assured passengers that the airport is safe for them to fly as they will be well protected against contracting the dreaded virus.
Sirika urged passengers to ensure that they arrive three hours before their domestic flight and five hours before their international flights to be able to carry out the protocols and guidelines for covid 19 as measures are in place to minimise contact among passengers.
Minister of state Health Adeleke Mamora called for strict enforcement of the compliance as all should be down to ensure that passengers keep to the instructions and carry out the rules.
