As part of measure to check the spread of covid 19 the federal airport’s authority of Nigeria FAAN says no two airlines will depart from a terminal at the same time when flight resumes.
Managing director of FAAN Rabiu Yadudu who disclosed this to newsmen at the weekend said the agency will implement flight spacing at all its airports to ensure safety of passengers.
He noted that the flight spacing is not to disrupt any of the airlines schedule but to ensure that passengers, airline staff and others within the airport are safe from the coronavirus.
He said FAAN had informed the Nigeria civil aviation authority NCAA of its plans which is aimed at restricting multiple flight departures from the same terminal.
Yadudu stated that FAAN was installing transparent shields in front of all airline counters operating from its terminal to minimise physical contacts, as wearing of face mask and other protocols by the Nigeria center for disease control NCDC.
On the issue of space at the General aviation terminal GAT Murtala Mohammed airport Lagos, Yadudu says plans are underway to increase its capacity by two hundred percent with the construction of fabricated materials within the airport.
The FAAN boss disclosed that about eighty five percent of the agency’s staff had been trained by the world health organisation WHO on operational and response time on covid 19 pandemic including one hundred percent of its staff at owerri airport.
He said the Management of FAAN followed the protocols on covid 19 concerning its staff. “No airport in Nigeria has one hundred percent of its staff trained by WHO and Port Health on covid 19, but we have achieved that with Owerri airport. All our staff at Owerri airport are trained one hundred percent with certificates issued. Overall, about eighty five to ninety percent of our staff have been trained and we want to achieve one hundred percent training for all.”
