
Air Passengers were this morning stranded at the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport lagos as unions in the aviation sector embark on strike over the non remittance of the 5% Ticket Sales Charge by airline operators, which resulted in flight disruption and cancellation.
The unions in the aviation sector which includes National union of air transport employees nuate, Air transport services senior staff association of Nigeria ATSSSAN, National Association of Aircraft pilots and engineers NAAPE, as well as the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC and Trade Union Congress TUC, had earlier this Tuesday picket the counters of airlines thereby stopping them from checking in passengers and stopping flights from operating.
Some visibly angry passengers who had arrived the Airport as early as 6.00am in a chat with swiftnews.ng expressed dismay at the way the unions had stopped them from flying to their various destinations adding the airlines ought to have done the needful, to avoid this National and Global embrassment and heavy loss of revenue.
The unions had few weeks ago issued ultimatum to Airline operators of Nigeria AON, over the non remittance of the 5% Ticket Sales Charge TSC which is meant for the funding of Aviation Agencies, as well as some airlines not allowing their workforce to be unionised.
