The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has warned members of the public, particularly job seekers, against fraudsters impersonating the agency and circulating fake recruitment and appointment letters.
The agency said it had become aware of the activities of unscrupulous individuals and groups falsely claiming to be recruiting workers or facilitating employment opportunities on behalf of NAMA
NAMA, in a press statement, described the development as disturbing and expressed concern that the fraudulent schemes were deliberately designed to exploit unsuspecting Nigerians seeking employment.
The agency stressed that it was not currently conducting any recruitment exercise, declaring that any person, group or organisation claiming otherwise did not have its approval or authorisation.
NAMA said the fake recruitment activities were not only capable of defrauding innocent job seekers but could also damage the agency’s corporate identity and institutional integrity.
“For the avoidance of doubt, NAMA is not currently conducting any recruitment exercise,” the agency stated.
It added that any individual, group or organisation claiming to recruit personnel, facilitate employment or issue appointment letters in the name of the agency was acting without its knowledge, approval or authorisation.
The warning is expected to put prospective job seekers on alert as fraudsters increasingly exploit the names of government agencies and other reputable institutions to deceive people searching for employment.
NAMA urged members of the public to be particularly cautious when approached with employment offers purportedly coming from the agency.
According to the statement, Nigerians should avoid making payments, providing sensitive personal information or entering into financial transactions with individuals claiming they could secure employment with NAMA.
The agency reiterated that it does not authorise any individual or third party to demand money or any other form of consideration in exchange for employment opportunities.
NAMA advised members of the public to independently verify any recruitment advertisement, employment-related communication or appointment letter purportedly issued by the agency through its recognised official channels before taking further action.
It also warned against relying on messages and correspondence circulated through unofficial channels, including social media platforms and unauthorised intermediaries.
“The public is particularly advised to disregard unofficial correspondence, social media messages and representations by unauthorised intermediaries,” the statement said.
NAMA further called on Nigerians to report suspected cases of impersonation and fraudulent representation to the appropriate authorities.
The agency maintained that vigilance was necessary to prevent unsuspecting members of the public from becoming victims of employment scams.
It also made it clear that it would not accept responsibility for financial losses or other consequences resulting from dealings with fraudsters or unauthorised persons falsely claiming to represent the organisation.
The statement was signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Dr Abdullahi Musa.
NAMA said it remained committed to transparency and institutional integrity while continuing to take steps to protect the public from fraudulent activities involving the misuse of its name.
The agency urged job seekers and other members of the public to always confirm the authenticity of recruitment information and appointment letters through official NAMA communication channels before responding to any purported offer of employment.
The latest warning underscores the growing need for Nigerians seeking jobs to exercise caution, especially when asked to make payments or disclose personal information in connection with promises of employment in government agencies and other public institutions.
