


The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command, says it has generated N19.84 billion revenue between January and July 2026.
Customs Area Controller Seme, Comptroller Abdullahi Kaila in a media briefing said this revenue generated, represents a 24.45 per cent increase.
Kaila noted that the command had already exceeded its 2025 revenue by N3.899 billion within the first seven months of 2026, which indicates strong compliance with , improved stakeholder engagement, enhanced operational efficiency and intensified anti-smuggling operations.
He stated that “This achievement demonstrates that effective enforcement and efficient trade facilitation are complementary responsibilities. While we continue to deny smugglers opportunities to undermine the economy., we remain equally committed to creating an enabling environment for compliant traders to conduct legitimate business with ease and predictability.”
The Seme Area Controller also disclosed that the command intercepted 3,300 cartridges of explosive being illegally conveyed through the border corridor.
Kaila said that “Explosives of these nature have devastating consequences when they fall into hands of criminal elements”.
“They have the potential to facilitate terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes capable of threatening National peace and security.”
He further stated that “The successful interception of these Explosives demonstrates the vigilance, professionalism and intelligence driven operations of our officers, working in close collaboration with sister security agencies.”
The Explosive materials along with one suspect have already been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit due to their sensitive nature.
The Seme command , also intercepted 1,306 sacks of expired and waste noodles, each weighing 50 kilogrammes, which was found in a truck that was deceptively declared to be carrying food items.
The comptroller revealed that “Acting on intelligence and sustained surveillance our officers subjected the consignment to thorough examination and uncovered it.”
The Command also intercepted 1,268 bags of foreign parboiled rice smuggled into the country through illegal routes.
Comptroller Kaila, stated that “Beyond denying government legitimate revenue, such illicit importation undermines the Federal Government’s agricultural policies, discourages local rice production and threatens the livelihoods of Nigerian farmers.”
Kaila stressed that the fight against illicit drugs remains one of the Service’s critical contributions to national security and public safety.
He said in pursuant of this, the command intercepted shipment of
illicit drugs and controlled substances, which includes 373 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, 90 packs of Tramaking 250mg, 69 packs of Royal Tapentadol 250mg, and 310,000 sticks of Time/Yes cigarettes.
These Drugs according to Comptroller Kaila are not ordinary commodities, they are dangerous products capable of destroying lives, fueling criminality, encouraging substance abuse and undermining the future of young people.
He added that “Through these interceptions, the Seme Area Command has disrupted criminal supply chains and prevented these dangerous products from reaching our communities.”
The Area Controller disclosed that in line with their renewed resolve to fight smuggling and cross-border crimes, using intelligence is paying off, as it continues to distrupt the activities of those bent on sabotaging the economy.
So, as part of its anti -smuggling efforts, the Command intercepted one used speedboat, one used water bike, one 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser, one 2016 Toyota RAV4, and one Nissan Versa. 2010 Model.
He noted that the Seme Area Command will continue to work tirelessly in protecting the nation from economic saboteurs and transnational criminal networks.
