The Nigeria Immigration Service, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and with support from the European Union, has concluded a three-day Top Management Workshop on the review of the 2019–2023 National Border Management Strategy (NBMS) and its Action Plan at Zuma Rock Resort, Niger State in preparation for the next policy cycle, 2027–2031.

The workshop held from 27th- 30th September 2026, provided a strategic platform for NIS Top Management and partners to review progress, exchange perspectives and consider key priorities towards strengthening Nigeria’s Border Management framework and providing a basis for aligning the review with the priorities of the next policy cycle.

Speaking at the workshop, the Comptroller-General , Kemi Nandap, stressed the need for the next strategy to be anchored on credible migration data, effective implementation mechanisms and sustained inter-agency collaboration. She noted that the review must provide a clear and actionable framework capable of responding to emerging border management and security challenges, while positioning Nigeria to provide leadership in integrated Border Management across Africa.

The engagement featured strategic discussions, technical sessions and group presentations, and consolidation of the review outcomes, followed by an NIS Executive Management Endorsement Session to review and endorse key recommendations, prioritise interventions, consider financing options and validate the proposed strategic direction for the 2027–2031 policy cycle.

The workshop reinforces the commitment of the Nigeria Immigration Service and its partners to sustained collaboration and continuous improvement in Border Management.
