Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo has presented a budget proposal of 63 billion naira to the National Asemble for 2024
The minister in a release signed by his media assistant Odutayo Oluseyi, also requested for an extra 81 billion naira which he said will be needed for the completion of the second Runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe international Airport Abuja, expressing danger in having only one Runway in the Nation’s capital city Abuja
The minister while putting the performance of the 2023 budget at 40% based on the release so far, appealed that critical projects such as Abuja 2nd Runway, upgrade and rehabilitation of the old terminal of Lagos Airport were vital projects thar need urgent attention.
Keyamo also affirm five focus areas for the industry which includes improvement of infrastructure in the Aviation industry, development of human capacity within the industry,as well as support for the growth and sustenance of local airline businesses whilst holding them to highest international standards in the Aviation industry
.
The minister also appealed to the National Assembly for the procurement of consultancy for the design of a master plan for major airports in Nigeria, stating the need to give more attention to the area of safety with procurement of equipment.
The minister informed the committee of Mr President’s approval for the purchase of screening machines for the 5 international Airports in Nigeria
On the issue of Airport concession Keyamo noted that he has taken into consideration concerns raised, stressing that concession is the way to go for the 5 international Airports in Nigeria, adding that he has written memo to Mr President for a quality concession process for the Lagos, Kano. Abuja, Port Harcourt and Enugu Airport
