After ten months of closure of the Runway 18R/36L, of the murtala Muhammad International Airport Lagos, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN has rreopened it.
The Runway was opened this Saturday after it was closed for maintenance for an initially announced eight weeks which eventually lasted for ten months following series of delays.
The Runway closure affected flight schedules and flow as Airlines had to spend more on fuel for their flights.as they were going beyond their scheduled time
The links 2&3 of the Runway are now open allowing International Airlines to avoid using the domestic 18L/36R Runway
Managing director of FAAN Olubumi kuku had recently disclosed that the reopening of Runway 18R will be sooner than expected
She disclosed that efforts were underway to expedite the reopening process
coordinated by the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency NAMA
The FAAN boss noted that in preparation for the reopening the Agency had engaged with Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) and the Nigeria civil Aviation authority NCAA
She said” We are working closely with the contractor, with the support of the Minister and permanent secretary aiming for a swift reopening “
