Unions in the aviation have given a fourteen days notice to government to clearly define the duties and roles of the Customs at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport MMIA Lagos

The unions in a letter signed by officials of the National union of Air Transport Employees NUATE, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria ATSSSAN, and Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals ANAP say the demand became necessary following a recent alleged assault by Nigeria Customs Service on high level officer, FAAN Director of Aviation Security Services at MMIA.

The unions noted that this attack is one too many as there have been so many assaults carried out by Customs personnel on staff in the airports

To this end the unions hereby demand that government within fourteen days redeploy the Area Controller Piligrims and Cargo Terminal (PCT) and all the Customs officers involved in the alledge assault on the FAAN Director of AVSEC

The unions also demand that government should immediately reduce the number of Custom officers operating in Civil Aviation as obtained globally.

They also charged the management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN to sign a Memorandum of6 Understanding MOU with all paramilitary agencies in the airports, defining scope, roles and responsibilities.

They stressed that if the demands are not met within fourteen days, industrial peace and harmony cannot be guaranteed
