Four suspected bandits were today arrested for Invading the Runway at the Akure airport.
This followed a distressed call by Air Traffic Controllers ATCs to security personnel, as they had seen the bandits from the control tower pursuing farmers from their farmland into the Runway of Akure airport.
The security personnel. Aviation security AVSEC, as well as Airforce combed the nearby forest leading to the arrest of four of the bandits.
The incident report say a woman and some young men were observed running from their farm behind the operational fence towards the edge of the runway shouting for help, as they noticed some men on motorcycles.
In response to a distress call that some suspected persoons were seen behind the airport towards Eleyewo community, troops AVSEC, NAF and the Nigerian Army were in pursuit and one suspect was apprehended by joint joint security operatives, suspect has been taken to the Nigeria Police area command for further interrogation
They alerted the CP, the Brig. General of the army cantonement, the MAC and their men are all involved in collaboration with AVSEC
The joint operation was successful as four suspects were apprehended and handed over to the police.
Managing Director Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN Olubunmi Kuku in her response to this development said this is the reason why the president and the Minister have accelerated establishing operational and perimeter fences at the airports.
