FAAN in a release by its spokesperson stated that on Thursday 20 January 2020, while aviation security (AVSEC) officers on duty at Gate 3 Murtala Muhammed international airport lagos profiling a NAHCO Vehicle that wanted to access the security Restricted Area, the customs Area comptroller for Hajj and cargo terminal suddenly emerged and pulled off behind the NAHCO vehicle that was being attended to.

FAAN also alleged that CSC Agunbiade a customs officer on the area comptroller’s entourage later shoved aside the AVSEC officer at the gate, forcefully took over the gate and opened the gate for the comptroller and his escorts to forcefully Access the Security Restricted Area.

While accessing the gate, the armed escorts to the Comptroller also allegedly threatened to beat up the AVSEC officers at the gate if they dare resist their assault and breach of security.

FAAN noted that the blatant abuse of privilege of bearing firearms by the Nigerian customs service has become a recurrent threat of their staff and operations.

FAAN stressed that they will keep on working to resolve their challenges decisively and urge all stakeholders to respect their mandate of being disciplined and professional conduct in the interest of National security and operational safety.

The federal airports authority of Nigeria FAAN has prohibited any airport official who has not undergone the mandatory airline drivers training, nor certified appropriately to drive on the air side of the nation’s airports

This followed a recently averted airside incident involving a customs official, at the Murtala Muhammed international airport.

FAAN in a release by the General manager corporate Affairs Henrietta Yakubu says it is emphasising this policy to ensure operational safety

Henceforth, all airline officials, security agencies, ground handling companies and other stakeholders are hereby directed and advised to ensure that their officials that have airside related roles and will need to drive are sent to FAAN’s training department to undergo this mandatory training before been assigned to duty

FAAN noted that it will no longer take lightly any action of violation of this directive in the interest of safety
