The National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers NAAPE this Monday picketed and barricaded the Lagos office of the Bristow Helicopters by shutting down it’s operations and not allowing workers access into the office.
The Union who came in company of the lagos state branch of the Nigeria labour Congress NLC arrived the premises of the airline early Monday morning say they have ordered their members to embark on indefinite strike over what they referred to as disparity in welfare and wages, as they pay expatriate pilots and Engineers more than they pay Nigerians, despite discharging the same duties.
The union members stated that their members will embark on an indefinite strike until their demands are met by the Management of the airline who has failed to negotiate with them despite several moves.
However the Management of the airline in a release say the airline had been notified of the action of the unions but says it is contrary to the provisions of the Nigeria labour laws and practices insisting that negotiations have not broken down and the airline remains willing to continue to negotiate with NAAPE which they claim have not followed up on the negotiations
