Unions in the Aviation sector have issued a 14day ultimatum to tĥe Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) Professor Charles Anosike to resolve all issues concerning workers welfare and outstanding payments due to them.
The Union’s in a joint letter signed by the General Secretary of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Ocheme Aba and the Secretary General of the Amalgamated Union of Corporation Civil Service Technical Recreation Services Employees (AUPTRE) Sikiru Waheed, expressed dismay at Anosike’s alleged refusal to address the issue of NiMet’s staff welfare in the aviation industry
The union leaders disclosed that the unions had severally and jointly sought to call his attention to the issues, adding that the efforts including ultimatum have been totally rebuffed or ignored completely by Anosike
The workers have resolved to shut down, the aviation sector so that their demands which are non implementation of new minimum wage, non payment of none months arrears of consequential adjustment of the 2019 minimum wage Act, none payment of 40% peculiar allowance could be addressed.
Others are non payment of hardship allowance, non payment of 25-30% wage award, non implementation of reviewed scheme of service of the agency since 2019 among other demands.
Some workers who prefer to remain anonymous, explained that aviation unions has issued multiple ultimatums to NIMET management, both past and present, but no meaningful changes have been implemented.
