The Customs Area Controller (CAC) Area 2, Customs Command, Onne Port, Rivers State, Mohammed Babandede, says the Nigeria Customs Service has done a lot in terms of innovation, technology, and human capital development, which helped to confronting the daunting challenges hindering trade facilitation.

The Command Public Relation Officer, CSC B Lomba in a release highlighted the achievements of the Service on a huge revenue generation, seizures, security and commitment of officials of the Service to facilitate trade.

Comptroller, Babandede while speaking in Onne Port Harcourt, during the celebration of International Customs Day (ICD) described the day as a day to celebrate collective achievements, which reflected on their progress and renewal commitment to building a better future.

Babandede, also used the occasion to call for recognition of officers of the Service, who facilitated trade, borders protection, security and revenue generation, noting that their dedication and expertise are instrumental in maintaining the delicate balance between facilitating trade and enforcing laws.

He said as global trade continues to grow at an unprecedented pace, customs administrations must evolve to meet the demands of an interconnected world, adding that his Command have embraced innovation, technologies, streamline processes, reduce clearance times, and enhance transparency.

On revenue generation, the Area 2 Comptroller, said the command generated revenue to the tune of over 639 billion naira in year 2024, while noting that the achievement was possible through the aid of the Service Headquarters in Abuja under the leadership of the CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR.

Comptroller Babandede, also thanked the government agencies and critical stakeholders for their robust contribution.

He expressed that the Command is looking forward to upgrading from NICIS II to B Odugu platform to process all cargo and goods declaration and also receipt of more scanners to aid examination of containers in the port.
