Nigeria’s foremost airline, Air Peace Limited, has dismissed reports alleging that its top executives are embroiled in a tax dispute with the Lagos State Government, insisting that no official notice of such proceedings has been received.
In a strongly worded statement, the airline rejected claims that its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Allen Ifechukwu Onyema, alongside Vice Chairman, Alice Ojochide Onyema, are the subject of a tax suit purportedly initiated by state authorities.
According to the airline, neither the company nor the individuals named have been served with court documents or any formal correspondence indicating the existence of legal action.
The management described the reports as both “unexpected” and “deeply concerning,” particularly assertions that proceedings have allegedly been ongoing since February without due notification.
Air Peace emphasised that it remains fully compliant with all statutory tax requirements, stating that both its corporate obligations and the personal tax responsibilities of its executives have been settled in line with extant laws and regulatory provisions.
The airline, however, adopted a conciliatory tone by expressing its readiness to engage constructively with the Lagos State Government should any discrepancies be identified. It noted that it is open to reviewing tax computations and reconciling any outstanding issues in a manner that upholds transparency, fairness, and due process.
Industry observers note that such disputes, when they arise, are often resolved through administrative engagement rather than prolonged litigation, particularly when parties demonstrate willingness to cooperate with regulatory authorities.
Air Peace further used the statement to reaffirm its broader commitment to the growth of Nigeria’s aviation sector, highlighting its record of resilience and its role in expanding domestic and international connectivity.
The airline noted that its leadership has consistently upheld values of integrity and patriotism, which continue to guide its operations.
