Operatives of the Airport Police Command in Murtala Muhammed International Airport have arrested a 28-year-old former employee of an IT firm, Vovida Communications Limited, over the alleged theft of equipment valued at more than N15 million.
The suspect, identified as George Ikpe, was apprehended on 3 April 2026 by officers attached to the airport division following what police described as “diligent intelligence gathering and investigation.”
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Mohammed Adeola, preliminary findings revealed that Ikpe allegedly gained unauthorised access to the company’s premises located along the airport axis and carted away critical technological equipment. Investigators reportedly relied heavily on CCTV footage from the facility, which captured the suspect’s movements and helped confirm his identity.
The stolen items include two custom-built Central Processing Units (CPUs) belonging to Vovida Communications, valued at N10.36 million, and a high-end industrial printer worth N4.72 million, bringing the total estimated loss to approximately N15.07 million.
Police said further investigation led to the recovery of the CPUs after the suspect provided useful information. However, the printer had already been sold prior to his arrest. During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to committing the crime as an act of revenge following the termination of his employment with the firm.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, Ogunbode Olufunke, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining security within the airport environment. She stressed that criminal elements would not be allowed to find refuge within the aviation corridor or its surrounding communities.
“The Command will not relent in ensuring that all criminal activities are promptly investigated and perpetrators brought to justice,” she said, adding that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner also urged members of the public to report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies, noting that timely information remains crucial to effective crime prevention and recovery efforts.
The Airport Police Command reiterated its resolve to safeguard lives and property while sustaining a secure and crime-free atmosphere across Nigeria’s busiest aviation gateway.
