The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has recorded a significant milestone at the 15th edition of the Nigeria Aviation Awards, as its Managing Director and Chief Executive, Olubunmi Kuku, was crowned Aviation Personality of the Year at the high-profile ceremony held in Lagos on April 17, 2026.
The award, regarded as one of the most prestigious recognitions within Nigeria’s aviation industry, celebrates Mrs Kuku’s dynamic leadership and her role in driving a wave of transformation across the country’s airport management system.
Her emergence as the standout recipient reflects the growing confidence in FAAN’s reform-oriented agenda and the measurable improvements recorded under her administration.
Stakeholders at the event highlighted that Mrs Kuku’s tenure has been marked by a renewed focus on operational efficiency, infrastructure modernisation, and improved passenger experience. These efforts, they noted, have repositioned FAAN as a more responsive and globally competitive institution within the aviation space.
Beyond the top individual honour, FAAN distinguished itself with several additional awards spanning key aspects of its operations. The Authority’s performance across multiple categories reinforced its reputation for institutional excellence and service innovation.
Notably, Luqman Emiola, Director of Human Resources and Administration, was recognised for workforce development.
His award underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen human capital, enhance staff welfare, and build a more efficient organisational structure – an area widely seen as critical to sustaining long-term growth in the aviation sector.
Further recognition came for FAAN’s Protocol Services Unit, which earned commendation for delivering high standards of service, particularly in facilitating seamless experiences for passengers and dignitaries.
In addition, several airports managed by FAAN received accolades for improvements in infrastructure, safety compliance, and passenger handling.
Among those honoured were Osubi Airport, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, and Port Harcourt International Airport.
The recognition of these airports reflects ongoing investments in upgrading facilities, strengthening safety protocols, and enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers across Nigeria’s key aviation hubs.
Collectively, the honours serve as a strong endorsement of FAAN’s strategic vision and its commitment to aligning with international best practices.
They also signal continued progress in the Authority’s mission to elevate Nigeria’s aviation industry to higher standards of efficiency, safety, and global relevance.
The 15th NIGAV Awards once again underscored excellence within the sector, with FAAN’s strong showing standing out as a testament to sustained reform, innovation, and leadership in Nigeria’s aviation landscape.
