The Group Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines, Mr Mesfin Tasew, has congratulated Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on his appointment by the African Development Bank (AfDB) as the Champion of the $7 billion Integrated Aviation Transformation Programme for Africa (IATP), describing the development as a recognition of the minister’s visionary leadership and dedication to the advancement of aviation across the continent.
In a personally signed congratulatory message addressed to Keyamo, the Ethiopian Airlines chief said the appointment reflected Africa’s confidence in the Nigerian minister’s ability to spearhead efforts aimed at modernising the continent’s aviation sector and attracting strategic investments needed for sustainable growth.
According to Tasew, the confidence reposed in Keyamo by the AfDB underscores the collective belief among African nations in his capacity to drive a transformative agenda for the industry.
“On behalf of Ethiopian Airlines Group and myself, I extend my heartfelt congratulations on your appointment by the African Development Bank as the Champion of the $7 billion Integrated Aviation Transformation Programme for Africa. This recognition is a testament to your visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing aviation in Nigeria and across the continent,” the Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO stated.
He noted that the appointment comes at a critical period in Africa’s developmental trajectory when aviation has become an indispensable catalyst for trade, tourism, investment and enhanced connectivity among nations.
Reaffirming Ethiopian Airlines’ longstanding commitment to the growth and integration of African aviation, Tasew expressed confidence that the Integrated Aviation Transformation Programme would create fresh opportunities for airlines, airports, investors and other players across the aviation value chain.
“We are confident that under your stewardship, the Integrated Aviation Transformation Programme will unlock new opportunities for African airlines, airports and aviation stakeholders. We look forward to collaborating with you and supporting this landmark initiative that will shape the future of African aviation,” he added.
The Ethiopian Airlines chief’s endorsement adds to the growing support being received by Keyamo following his appointment as AfDB’s Aviation Champion, a role expected to position Nigeria at the forefront of efforts to transform the continent’s air transport industry.
Industry observers believe the initiative will help strengthen regional connectivity, boost trade and tourism, and facilitate the mobilisation of investments required to modernise Africa’s aviation infrastructure.
The message from the Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO is also seen as a reflection of the increasing confidence among leading African institutions and industry stakeholders in Nigeria’s leadership role in the ongoing efforts to build a more integrated, competitive and prosperous aviation sector across the continent.
The statement was made public on Thursday by Mr Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
Keyamo’s appointment by the African Development Bank as champion of the ambitious $7 billion programme has continued to attract commendations from across the continent, with many stakeholders describing it as a significant endorsement of his vision for the future of African aviation and the importance of strategic partnerships in driving the sector’s development.
